New Centralized Location
- The Library would remain close to downtown but in a more central and much more visible location.
- We hope the new Library will be a strong incentive for new development in the Main Street corridor.
- Our new location is closer to the center of Lombard, offering more convenient access for more residents.
- Visitors will enjoy convenient adjacent parking access at the new location.
- While we have incurred additional real estate costs with the new property, moving to our new location will save approximately $1.5 million in costs for an interim location.
A New Public Square
Let’s Meet at Helen Plum!
One of the biggest needs that the current Library has been unable to provide is adequate space for meetings, study and gathering for the community. The new building will provide a wide range of much needed additional study rooms and large meeting and program spaces.
The First Floor: Patron Services & Youth Services
Drive-Thru Convenience
Convenient drive-thru service is being added to the east side of the building to allow drop off and pick up of materials that have been placed on hold.
Customer Service
A station will be available for visitors to apply for passports, use notary services and more community-related services.
Self-Check Stations
If you like to run in and pick up your holds or other materials and quickly check out, a number of stations will be available throughout the building.
Youth Services
Expanding to include a program and storytime room, a flexible activities space and an expanded early literacy area and public computers, all on the first floor. No more stroller parades on the elevator!
The Second Floor: Adult & Teen Services, Computers & Creative Space
Relax, Read and Work
The majority of the Library’s adult collection will be located on the second floor in a quiet space surrounded by windows. This area will provide easier access for patrons, along with reading and working spaces.
Teen Services
Lombard’s teens will have a safe, supervised area for study, collaboration and engaging in creative activities. Public computers will be available. The Young Adult collection will be adjacent to this space.
Public Computer Access
Public computers for adults will be available on the second floor. A computer lab will be the new site for a much larger offering of technology training and programs.
Creative Space
The Library will also have a flexible space where patrons can create and learn using emerging technology, share community resources and participate in hands-on creative-based activities and programs.
