Outreach, Class, and Scout Visits

Please note: Visits are subject to staff availability and are not booked until they are confirmed by the Library.

Group Information

For in-Library visits, the ratio of children to adults must be 1:5 for preschool, and 1:15 for elementary school, lower for middle and high school

Library staff provides 2-3 stories, songs, and movement activities as appropriate for the age group.
Library staff shows visitors around the public side and a little of the private side of the Library's programs, materials, and services.

Type of Offsite Visits
Library staff visits a group and provides 2-3 stories and movement activities.
Library staff visits a classroom and provides 2-3 stories and movement activities, and promotes Library services, programs, and cards where appropriate.
Library staff visits a classroom and gives a talk on 5-10 books appropriate for the age group or requested genre.
Library Staff visits the classroom and gives an introduction to accessing the Library's databases. School and home access requires a Helen Plum Library Card, while access in the library does not require a card.

Lombard-based Scout troops are welcome to enjoy one facilitated visit per school year. We can accommodate up to 20 scouts at one time in most cases. Programs are available from September through April. Please request a program at least two weeks in advance.

Tour the building and learn more about how the Library helps the community. Work together on a short research project about a famous librarian and do a scavenger hunt to become an expert at finding books! Offered at Daisy, Brownie, and Junior level. Badge included.
Level 1 of the Coding for Good badge set, offered at Brownie and Junior level. Badge not included.
Level 1 of the Robotics badge set, offered at Brownie and Junior level. Badge not included.
Learn about the uses of 3D printed objects. Design your own item using kid-friendly software program TinkerCAD, and design an item to be printed and picked up later. Badge included. Offered at the Junior level only.
Experience a creative activity in Studio 411. Staff will work with your troop to determine an appropriate activity. Maximum 16 participants.
